A Nation Remembers     posted 11/11/2018
Sunday 11th November 2018, annually known as Remembrance Sunday, marked the 100th anniversary
of the signing of the Armistice - bringing an end to the Great War.  This year Remembrance Sunday was
marked in Christ Church with our Morning Worship at 11.30am which included our annual Act of Remembrance.

The service was conducted by Mrs Jill Hunter (Diocesan Reader), who delivered a very poignant and emotional
sermon on the relevance and history of the poppy.  She also included a prayer written especially for the occasion
by Dean Gregory Dunstan, Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral Armagh.

Scripture readings were from The Letter of Paul to the Romans, Ch 8: vs 31-39 and Matthew's Gospel, Ch 5: vs 1-12,
along with Psalm 4.  Hymns sung were Praise my soul, the King of heaven; God! As with silent hearts we bring to mind;
Eternal Father, strong to save and O God our help in ages past.

Our Act of Remembrance included the reading of the names of those who gave their all, followed by the Last Post,
2 minutes' silence and Reveille. The wreath commemorating parishioners who lost their lives in World War I was
laid by Mr William McKie, while the World War II wreath was laid by Mr Leslie Young, whose uncle Sgt Samuel Joseph
Weir (RAF) was the sole parishioner to lose his life in this war.

The service concluded with the National Anthem and the dismissal music was a piper playing 'The Battle's O'er'.

Earlier in the morning, wreaths were laid on the graves of Private William Burke and Private Jack Finlay in the adjoining
graveyard.  Pte Burke served and survived WW1 and Pte Finlay likewise in WWII.  Both men were parishioners of
Christ Church and are laid to rest in the parish graveyard.

The evening concluded, at 7.05pm, when our church bells pealed as part of 'A Nation's Tribute' commemorating the 1918 Armistice.

Data Protection     posted 06/03/2018
New EU regulations in relation to General Data Protection (GDPR) are coming into effect from 25th May 2018, and will affect all parishes and churches.  The main change to each individual will be that in order to receive correspondence or communications from our church you will have to grant us permission to contact you, a type of 'opt-in' system.  Over the next few weeks all aprishioners will receive correspondence from us detailing the new regulations including a Consent Form, which will allow us to keep everyone updated.  It is our hope that all parishioners will complete and return the said form, though if we do not receive it back, we will not be permitted to make contact in the future.  Please be aware this is important to us as a parish and we trust you will give this your utmost attention.  We thank you in advance of your co-operation and understanding.
